About this Item

Two volume set. Quarto. 9 1/2" 6 1/2". [xvii] 339pp, 376pp. Bound in 3/4 leather, 5 raised bands, gilt spine lettering and devices, decorative endpapers. Bound into volume 1 is a leaf SIGNED by Joseph Conrad. The leaf looks like it was originally from or meant for an edition of "The Secret Agent" done by T Werner Laurie in 1923, and that was limited to 1000 copies. Signed binding by Stikeman & Co. Green leather has faded to brown especially on the spines. Some light edge wear at corners and spine. With photographic frontispiece portraits of Conrad in each volume as well as additional illustrations and facsimiles throughout. There is some staining at top edge of title page and tissue guard in Volume one. Stated first edition. Georges Jean-Aubry was the pen-name of Jean-Fr�d�ric-Emile Aubry, a friend, translator and biographer of Conrad.
