Life Magazineâ s souvenir edition commemorating Kennedyâ s inauguration. Presentation copy, inscribed by President Kennedy, â For Mr. Joseph Clark with very best wishes, John Kennedy. The recipient, Joseph Clark was aÂUnited States SenatorÂfromÂPennsylvaniaÂfrom 1957 to 1969. He worked with Kennedy in the Senate, and continued to their push for civil rights, highlighting the issue as a major part of Kennedyâ s presidential campaign. He endorsed new legislation to extend voting rights, end discrimination in education and housing, and establish the Fair Employment Practices Commission. Kennedy announced during his campaign that Clark and Congressman Emanuel Celler had agreed to prepare a comprehensive civil rights bill â embodying the commitments of the Democratic platform,â to be introduced early in the next congressional session. One of the key issues in Kennedyâ s campaign, which helped him win the presidency in 1960. Matted and framed with the printed text of Kennedyâ s inaugural speech, a portrait of Kennedy giving his speech. The entire piece measures 27 inches by 34 inches.
