Tight binding, solid green boards with gilt lettering and floral decoration to front, age-toned spine strip with bright gilt lettering, clean, unmarked pages throughout. Inscribed and dated (December, 1897) on front end paper to previous owner (wife of Augustus Thomas, noted American playwright) by John Fox Jr. In the same hand on dedication page the author has lined out the phrase "My Father's Kentuckians" and written it by hand.
