Morris authored THE TWELFTH OF AUGUST; THE STORY OF BUFORD PUSSER which was first published in October 1971. McNairy County, Tennessee sheriff Buford Pusser earned national fame in his fight against the Corinth, Mississippi-based State Line Mob, a Dixie Mafia faction led by Carl Douglas "Towhead" White. Pusser was shot eight times and stabbed seven while serving as sheriff and a mob assassination attempt resulted in the death of his wife Pauline Mullins Pusser in 1967. Pusser died in a car accident in 1974 but his legend continues to grow via the 1973 film "Walking Tall" and its sequels and remakes. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. ISBN 1563111640. This was a well written account of Buford Pusser's life. It throughly documents events in Pusser's life and the book is by far better than the movies. A must read for the Pusser fan. You'll find it hard to put down once you've started it. Pictures give you a more personal view of the man behind the legend and his close family bonds.
