Item description from seller

1st Edition. Hardcover. Presentation First Edition of the author's acclaimed first book written when he was 25. 8vo., 400pp. A near fine, fresh copy in a bright dustwrapper. [A small tape mend on the verso at the crown]. Some shelf wear as expected. Inscribed by William Styron to his press agent, Glenn Bornstein, on the title page. A precursor to Styron's later achievements, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning THE CONFESSIONS OF NAT TURNER and SOPHIE'S CHOICE, adapted into the acclaimed 1982 film SOPHIE'S CHOICE starring Meryl Streep, whose performance earned the Academy Award for Best Actress. A rare and beautiful copy.
