Inscribed first edition 4to hardcover in black cloth with gilt titling to front and spine. 568pp. with hundreds of photo illustrations and ribbon bookmark. Clean, well bound, unmarked beside's author Sandra Niessen's inscription to title page. Boards' corners sharp, trivial spotting to front and rear; gilt bright. Page interiors crisp and lush, tiny bit rubbing to top of page block, else in excellent condition. This is a landmark study on the ancient art of weaving in the Batak region of North Sumatra, and "provides a record of more than 100 different design types, including archival and contemporary photographs showing how the textiles are woven and how they are used in Batak culture".
