A library is all about sharing — pooling our resources so we all benefit. That kind of thinking helped the early fur traders get through the tough, cold winters, and made life more pleasant for early settlers from Europe. Through the years, libraries have grown in size and in scope. Today, there are hundreds of libraries — public, school, university, government and more — serving British Columbians. And they are not just about books any more. They provide a full range of services, including music, movies, access to the internet and programs for all ages. Libraries inform us, enlighten us and entertain us, helping British Columians achieve a higher level of literacy and learning.
The history of libraries in British Columbia has been shaped by many people, including Andrew Carnegie, Ethelbert Olaf Stuart Scholefield, Helen Gordon Stuart and Ray Culos. This book traces their work, and the development of libraries over the past century and a half. It also looks ahead at what is to come, and how libraries will continue to serve us for many more decades.
In the end, it all comes down to sharing — people working together for the common good.

Terms of sale
Postage is based on the weight. We have created different shipping templates for different kinds of items that we sell based on the weight class of books, but also on the value of certain other items that require specialized shipping.
We have 7 different shipping templates: One for light items such as Audio Cds, four for books and two for comic books.
As a example, for most books weighing up to 2.9 lbs (1.3kg) standard postage within Canada is $11.99USD to the USA with Media Mail is $7.99USD and for "standard" International mail is $36.00USD. GST is charged on books and shipping for all Canadian customers.
The shipping templates have a default amount for a second book in the same order but this applies only to items of the same weight class or category. For example, the second CD is charged at $6. Obviously we cannot send a CD and then a second book weighing 7 lbs for a total of $12. We recommend that for orders of multiple items, to contact us to get a quote for shipping. Books requiring special shipping or priority shipping will be quoted. We are glad to quote delivery costs to International buyers. International shipping has become more complicated so it is best to contact us as to the cost and time required for delivery.
Books are carefully wrapped and usually shipped in corrugated cardboard cartons. Books are returnable for a full refund if the book is not as described. The book price only will be refunded for any other reason. Please notify JWMah in advance of any return within 7 days of receipt of the book before sending it back so that we can give you the correct return address for your particular location. .
