About this Item

Early (first?) book from master printer, William Holman under his Roger Beacham imprint. Discusses in detail the printing of ephemera for libraries and includes many finely printed examples: broadsides, pamphlets, brochures, reading lists, etc. Holman's inscription sheds some light on the publication: "The design credit goes to Barbara [Holman] while Graham Mackintosh is listed as the printer. But I finally had to print the book on my Heidelberg letterpress - and Barbara Holman made the hand marbled paper. I designed the book. William R. Holman." A beautiful example of a unique publication by a prominent Texas fine printer. Folio, 67pp. Introduction by Lawrence Clark Powell, signed and inscribed by William Holman at front colophon. Complete with mounted ephemeral examples throughout and 16 additional specimens loose in folder at rear. Hand marbled, orange paper boards, black cloth spine with printed label. Near fine with some wear to label, toning to a few pieces of ephemera and opposing pages, rear hinge stressed due to stack of examples as common.
