Publisher's green cloth, spine and front cover lettered and decorated in gilt and black, floral patterned endleaves. David S. Terry (1823 - 1889) was a California Supreme Court Justice and one of the authors of the state's constitution. He killed a US Senator (David C. Broderick) in a duel in 1859 and thirty years later attacked an Associate Supreme Court Justice (Stephen J. Field) and was subsequently shot and killed by Deputy US Marshall David Neagle. . Spine slightly wrinkled and leaning; boards gently rubbed and soiled; rear hinge cracked, front hinge starting; moderate uniform toning throughout; small bookplate to front pastedown. Very good.
