First edition, first printing. Signed by the author David Attenborough on a bookplate fixed to the title page. Publisher's original tan cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the David Attenborough and John Sparkes designed dustwrapper. Richly illustrated throughout with approx. 144 colour photographs, as issued, many of which contributed by Attenborough himself. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh, with just a little rubbing to the spine tips. The contents, with some offsetting and a touch of spotting to the endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete in the near fine, lightly rubbed dustwrapper, which is mildly faded to the spine and lightly toned to the flap edges, and is otherwise without loss or tears.
