Add to basketOriginal blue cloth 8vo, no dustwrapper, pp.495. Frontis portrait. Generously large signed handwritten inscription in blue ink to front endpaper which reads " To Mrs Rigby in remembrance of a very happy time at " Shandon " January 1941. Sincerely yours Henry J Wood, Queens Hall, London ". Henry Wood 1869 - 1944 was the celebrated conductor forever associated with the Proms, which were officially renamed the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts. He has been described as the most important figure in British classical music of the first half of the 20th century, and this is his autobiography. No dustwrapper but a previous owner has cut the photographic illustration of him with a conductors baton from the wrapper cover, and pasted it onto the front inside cover of this. The blue cloth binding is a little faded and dusty in places, with dull but readable title and author printing. The contents are clean and tight but uniformly lightly browned. Nine adjacent leaves in the early text have a lightly creased leading margin, and three of the leading edges of these have a small split of less than an inch in length. Overall a good copy of a scarce signed presentation copy given three years before his death in 1944.
