The compelling autobiography of popular actress and singer Ellaline Terriss, signed by the author to her "luncheon partner" William Foyle, co-founder of Foyles bookshop, with the vanishingly scarce original dust wrapper. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. Signed by the author to the front free end paper: 'Happy Memories to my nice "luncheon partner" Mr. Foyle from his old friend Ellaline Terriss, Nov. 1955'. William Foyle was the co-founder of Foyles bookshop, founding the leading bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. This work came from his library at Beeleigh Abbey. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex, which became home to his library, one the largest private libraries in England.Illustrated with seventy-six evocative black-and-white photographs. Collated, complete.The autobiography of popular British actress and singer Mary Ellaline Terriss, Lady Hicks (1871-1971), known professionally as Ellaline Terriss. She was best known for her successful performances in Edwardian musical comedies, and for her collaborations with her husband actor-producer Seymour Hicks. Her handwritten dedication to her daughter Betty is a facsimile. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition, with just a little bumping to the upper corners. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains bright but is chipped to the extremities, particularly to the head of the spine of the wrap. Closed tear to the front of the wrap. Fine. Seller Inventory # 911M8
