This is a guide to plants of the seaside and salt marshes and animals and algae of tide pools on the coast of Maine. Living of the edge of the coast of Maine is not easy, and a walk along the winding shore where the ocean meets dry land puts a variety of conditions underfoot. In some places you are on solid rock, and in others you are stepping on cobbles smoothed by hours of tumbling in the waves. This book is an account of the habitats - sand, beach, cobble beach, salt marsh, and marine - and common organisms - plants, lichens, algae, and animals - that you will likely encounter on your journey. It is not intended to be a technical manual, but botanical and zoological terms have been used to describe what the viewer would see.
