1st printing. 8vo. Red/brown cloth, the spine lettered in gilt. 96pp. The theatrical bombshell of 1956, when it was produced by the English Stage Company at the Royal Court Theatre, presenting (in Kenneth Tynan’s words) 'post-war youth as it really is, with special emphasis on the non-U intelligentsia who live in bed-sitters and divide the Sunday papers into two groups, "posh" and "wet"'. A few most minor spots to the head edge, the spine tail rather bumped and its head less so, the stock with light general toning, darker at the rear pastedown and endpaper, but Very Good indeed, the unclipped dust jacket (in removable plastic sleeve) echoing those bumps on the spine panel, the text of which is toned, also rubbed with chips at the head edge of the lower panel, but Very Good overall. This copy has been signed by Osborne, and it has the neat ownership inscription of Sivar Arnér, the Swedish novelist and playwright.
