Unclipped dustjacket with minor rubbing to the extremities, with a little fading to the spine, and minor blurring of type on spine and rear panel; protected in archival mylar. Illustrated with numerous historic black & white photographs, including one showing Marines on Samoa wearing skirts and tee-shirts as official uniforms. Inscribed on the front endpaper "To Michael V. McGuire [Chicago Tribune Foreign Correspondent] with best wishes [signed] Harry Openheimer". Included is a typed letter signed by Oppenheimer, on Fourth Division Marine Headquarters stationery, as well as a contemporary newspaper article on Oppenheimer. Autograph.
