Add to basketFolio (15 x 10 2/8 inches). Half-title, title-page printed in black and blue. 42 chromolithographed plates of primates. Contemporary brown calf, gilt (extremities scuffed). Top edges gilt, others uncut. Provenance: front free endpaper inscribed to Nobel prize-winner Hugo Theorell by grateful members of the Institute of Biophysics at the University of Rio de Janeiro in 1962. First edition, limited issue, number 26 of 50 copies signed by the author. Eladio da Cruz Lima was originally a respected lawyer, who in 1930 joined the department of Zoology at the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi, a Brazilian research institution and museum located in the city of Belém. Sadly he died part way through his research into the primates of the Amazon region, but his 42 illustrations to this work are testament to the interest and talent of this polymath, as well as an introduction to one of the richest regions of the world in terms of its natural history.
