Add to basketA rare signed copy in excellent condition. British-born author (1904-1990) was a journalist and political activist, co-founder of the National Guardian in 1948. He became its "editor in exile" after being "deported by the Cold War Inquisition" in 1955. Settled in Mexico. Wrote travel, biography and fiction from many parts of the world. This book refers to Cuba where the author spent 5 months in 1962. From there he traveled to Haiti, Venezuela. British Guiana, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Panama and back to Cuba. It is both a "primer" and a "warning of disaster ahead" -Dust jacket flap. 8 leaves of plates with b/w photographs taken by author's American wife. Blue cloth boards, light rubbing and fading at spine edges. Tight binding, interior fine, no markings. Dust jacket slightly faded with photograph of Ecuador Indian peasant in square medallion. Mylar-protected. First edition, inscribed "to John Bird fellow-believer in Peace on Earth NOW with warm regards" signed by Cedric Belfrage in Mexico, Feb 10, 1964. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
