Item description from seller

Illustrations by John Huseby. Small 8vo. Light green cloth with dark green lettering, pictorial dust jacket. viii, 199pp. Woodblock engravings. Near fine/very good. Speckling of top page edges; jacket ever-so-faintly rubbed only. Superb, tight first edition of this noted soil chemist and agronomist's thoughts on tending to the land and the soil. Scarseth (1898-1962) died shortly before its publication, but later that same year his widow boldly inscribed and signed this copy in black ink on the half-title page to some farmer friends of her husband: "For Ed. and Dorothy Abbott, / may Man and his Earth / be a continuation of your / delightful visits with George! / Ida Scarseth / Dec. 8, 1962 / Morrison, Ill. / (for George D. Scarseth) / 1898-1962." Next best thing to an impossible author-signed copy.
