Add to basketSigned U.S. First Edition in slipcase of the English translation of this Prix Goncourt awarding novel by one of the thought leaders of the 20th Century, Simone De Beauvoir. From a central place within the mid- 20th century world of French Existentialism, De Beauvoir laid essential intellectual groundwork for gender studies and feminism. In this novel of philosophers and intellectuals, De Beauvior draws on her experience of the exotic socializing within her bookish set -- storytelling that infuriated one famous lover, Nelson Algren, but taken in stride by more famous lover Jean-Paul Sartre. Signed by Simone De Beauvior on a limiitation page at front. 610 pages, cloth. The book itself shows no sign of previous use but has a hint of tanning on the spine. The slipcase has tanning about 1" deep on both sides of the open edge. The slipcase also has a pair of scuffs resulting in surface paper loss on one cover.
