Ray Bradbury (1950) ‘The Martian Chronicles‘, US first edition, first printing, published by Doubleday. Signed and inscribed by the author on the ffep: “Diane! Ray Badbury 2/14/98”. In addition, a loosely inserted stcker label note by Bradbury to the person who requested to get the book signed: “For Diane Peterson| This copy of “Martian Chronicles” with good wishes from Ray Bradbury”. We also provide two NASA photographs of Planet Mars. The first photograph shows a Mars sunrise. Bradbury inscribed this with “Matt! Mars if Heaven| Ray Bradbury”. The second photograph shows Ares Vallis, an outflow channel on Mars which was photographed by the Mars Pathfinder probe in 1997. To the right we also the little rover ‘Sojourner’. Bradbury has flat signed this photograph. We also provide an illustrated Folio Society edition of the ‘Martian Chronicles’ as a reading copy. Notice the difference in Bradbury’s handwriting between the book which was signed in 1998 and the images that were signed in the late 2000s. Bradbury suffered a stroke in 1999 leaving him reliant on a wheelchair. His handwriting deteriorated further towards the end of his life. Condition: a near fine or better copy. Exceptionally clean without any previous owner’s scribbles, no bookplates etc. The boards are square and clean and retain their original greenish colour. A touch of spine fade as is common for the title. The lettering on the spine in vibrant and NOT ruubed out. The dust jacket is a beauty and rarely seen in better condition. It is NOT price clipped, and NOT restored in any way. It shows only a little edge wear. Usually the dust jacket’s spine gets quite faded, not so with this specimen. ‘The Martian Chronicles’ is a landmark book in its genre and beloved by many fans. NASA has paid tribute to Bradbury’s achievement with his Mars stories by naming the Curiosity Rover (operational since 6 August 2012) landing site after him. First and Fine.…
