158 Pp. + All Eight Full Color Plates (Including The Earliest Plates By Shrader). First Printing Of The First Edition,1909 (Also Later Reprinted By Barse & Hopkins, And Again Later By Grosset & Dunlap). .Green Cloth, Gilt And Black Lettering And Illustration. Inscribed By Shrader To His Mother, And Dated In Christmas 1909. Shrader Was A Student Of Howard Pyle, Later Head Of Faculty At The Otis Art Institute To 1949 And President Of The California Art Club From 1924 To 1930 And Again In 1934. A Children's History Of European Exploration In The Western Hemisphere In The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries. Although The Title Refers To A Finding Of America, Which Is A Concept That Would Have Been Of The Greatest Surprise To The Inhabitants Who Were Found, The Book Is Otherwise Remarkable For Its Great Evenness Of Discussion Of Explorers And The Natives, A Children's Basic History Which I Think Would Still Be Largely Politically Correct Today And Which Is A Credit To, And Perhaps A Remarkable Change In, American Children's Historical Book Style, Which At Least Until This Time Was Generally Imperialist And Militaristic. The Book Is Very Worn, Spine Panel Completely Worn Through Along Front Spine Edge, Front Hinge Cracked Through, But Binding Remains Intact. Black Lettering On Front Board Partly Rubbed Away But Still Readable. Cloth Frayed At Edges. Excellent Provenance, Directly From Shrader's House In La Canada- Flintridge, Ca.

Standard shipping costs are based on books of standard size with shipping weight of 4 pounds or less; if a book order is heavier or oversized, extra shipping costs may be charged. Non-standard and higher-valued international shipments are charged estimated postage and shipping costs, including full insurance for all shipments valued over $200.
