About this Item
Rare autograph quote signed by Prime Minister Menachem Begin, excerpting his May 15th 1948 speech regarding Israel's independence. One page on 'Success Quotes' card stationary, the quote reads, "'Remember ye we were strangers in the land of Egypt' - this supreme rule must continually light our way in our relations with the strangers in our gates. Righteousness [sic], righteousness shalt thou pursue. (From the radio-broadcast on May 15th 1948, in the wake of the proclamation of Israel's Independence) Jerusalem Jan. 1985 M. Begin." In fine condition. The piece measures 7.125 inches by 3.75 inches. An exceptional piece. Menachem Begin was an Israeli politician, founder of the major right-wing political party Likud and the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. His most significant achievement as Prime Minister was the signing of a peace treaty with Egypt in 1979, for which he and Anwar Sadat shared the Nobel Prize for Peace. Before the creation of the state of Israel, Begin was a prominent leader of the Zionist underground organization Irgun during the British Mandate in Palestine. Seller Inventory # 146685
