First edition. Presentation copy from the author to S. E. Sewall (presumed to be the abolitionist Samuel E. Sewall), with the inscription (stating from the author, but unsigned), on front endpaper. Brown leather covers, with gilt lettering on red background on spine. Front edge of spine is reinforced with book tape, and back edge of spine is partially split. Upper corners are bumped and bent, and corners are worn and starting to fray. Top and bottom ends of spine are missing a strip. Bottom end of spine has a library number, and inside front cover has a bookplate from Fletcher Town Library. Pages in first and last parts of book have some browning, and several pages have some spotting. Rear endpaper has a library number in upper corner. Book is in good to good minus condition. Small 8vo, 306 pages, .7 lb.; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 306 pages; Signed by Author.
