Item description from seller

Bound in brown embossed cloth with bright gold lettering (Japan, Perry) on the spine. Heavy wear to one corner and lighter wearto the others. With a 2" separation of the cloth at the top of the spine bordering the front panel. Hinges are tender. A tight, clean copy, with scarce correspondence on the expedition to open Japan. With several entries by "M.C. Perry." This copy is signed by "M.C. Perry" at the top of the front endpaper, though I doubt it is the Commodore's signature; perhaps a relative's. Signed "M.C.Perry" at the top of the front endpaper.
