The original 1953 edition was the first serious discussion of modern science fiction as literature. Contains essays by John W. Campbell, Jr., Anthony Boucher, Don Fabun, Fletcher Pratt, Rosalie Moore, L. Sprague de Camp, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip Wylie, Gerald Heard, and Reginald Bretnor. The essays are grouped in three sections: "Science Fiction Today," "Science Fiction as Literature," and "Science Fiction, Science, and Modern Man. A must have for any serious student of Science Fiction writing or would be writer. Although it is almost 70 years old, much of what is discussed is still true today. This copy is very special as it was signed by John W. Campbell, Jr. who many consider the father of modern SF and three of the most important writers of their day; Anthony Boucher, L. Spraque de Camp, and Arthur C. Clarke. A true collectors edition. Good to very good condition; binding is square, boards are flat and parallel, corners have been lightly bumped. Pages are browing, but are not brittle and all are very legible. DJ is in good condition, has mylar sleeve over original DJ. It is taped front and back. Price not clipped.
