Minimal spine lean, spine ends sunned, cover slightly discolored from adhesive bleed. In the color illustrated dust jacket, uncredited, with author portrait on rear: price clipped, light edge-wear. Inscribed by La Mure in his tiny script on the front free endpaper. Biographical novel of the life of painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec on which the 1952 movie Moulin Rouge was based. French writer Pierre La Mure was living in the US and writing about it for French publications when WWII broke out. Unable to return to France, he taught himself to write in English to revive his career.
