Signed without inscription by J. Frank Dobie with a swirl underneath on the first blank, opposite the copyright page. Two tone illustrated cloth with gilt titles, stated first edition in dustjacket. A very good copy with rounding to the spine tips and a stray spot of soil on the spine beneath "The." Small stain to the top of the front edge. Text is clean and unmarked and the binding and hinges are solid. Decorative endpapers. Price-clipped dustjacket is only good with tape repairs internal to the head and heal of the spine panel and the folds, and a bit of paper loss at the bottom of the front flap. Jacket spine panel sunned and faded, and some smudging to the white illustrated rear panel. 376 pp., indexed. Covers of the Bantam paperback of the same title laid in at rear. Considered one of Dobie's finest works, nicely signed.
