First edition, first printing. Signed by Fred Brooks on the front free endpaper in blue marker and inscribed to his colleague at Data General, "Bill - Warmest regards and the best of luck at Data General." xi, 195 pp. Bound in publisher's illustrated wraps. Very Good with sunning to spine and edges of covers, moderate wear at edges, chip at bottom corner of front cover. A few small creases to wraps. A classic work on software and project engineering, penned in the wake of the author's struggle with the development of the operating system OS/360 (a precursor to Microsoft's Windows, Apple's iOS, and Google's Android) at IBM. The work's tone is humorous and at times self-deprecating with quotes from Shakespeare and titles like "Hatching a Catastrophe." The book explains Brooks's Law, the idea that "adding manpower to a late software project makes it later." Scarce signed. Seller Inventory # 140948193
