Description:

Moderna Museet in Stockholm/Experiments in Art and Technology: New York, 1973. The New York Collection for Stockholm is a significant portfolio showcasing the work of prominent American artists from the postwar era. The portfolio was conceived as a fundraising effort for the Moderna Museet, one of Europe's foremost museums for modern and contemporary art, located in Stockholm. The collection aimed to promote American art and raise awareness of the museum's efforts to acquire works by leading international artists. The portfolio includes 30 original works by a mix of pop artists, abstract expressionists, minimalists, and contemporary visionaries, representing a broad cross-section of the vibrant New York art scene at the time and featuring some of the most influential artists of the 20th century. These works were made using various printmaking techniques, including lithography, silkscreen, etching, and woodcut, among others. The artists included are: Lee Bontecou, Robert Breer, John Chamberlain, Walter de Maria, Jim Dine, Mark di Suvero, Oivind Fahlstrom, Dan Flavin, Red Grooms, Hans Haacke, Alex Hay, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Morris, Louise Nevelson, Kenneth Noland, Claes Oldenburg, Nam June Paik, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers, James Rosenquist, George Segal, Richard Serra, Keith Sonnier, Richard Stankiewicz, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol and Robert Whitman. All the works are signed by the artists, except for de Maria, Haacke and Lichtenstein, and Noland that bear a stamped signature. Loose as issued and complete, guarded in the original Honduras mahogany box with justification stamped inside. The portfolio was executed at Styria Studio, Inc. in New York and hand printed on 100% rag papers from lithographic stones, plates, and silkscreens. It is one of 300 copies, this one is N. 142.
