Signed presentation from Cockayne on the title page: "L. Cockayne with warmest regards to Dr. Franklin. Sept. 5th, 1914." Leonard Cockayne [1855-1934) is regarded as New Zealand's greatest botanist and a founder of modern science in New Zealand. The first attempt to deal with the plant-life of the New Zealand biological region as a whole on ecological lines. An uncommon autograph!
