Nekrasov was one of Russia's great 19th century poets with a preoccupation with his country's social ills that were fostered by the system of serfdom. Birmenmayer was Associate Professor of Slavic Languages at Penn State University. Signed presentation from Birkenmayer on the title page, to his superior: "To Joe Paternost with best wishes! Sigmund Birkenmayer." Paternost was Professor Emeritus of Slavic Languages at Penn State. Very Good (light crease to first several pages; contents clean & tight); worn (lower one-inch missing along base of the front panel & few tears) d/j.
