First Statement Press, Montreal, 1948.First Edition, First State with the controversial forward present and which was excised from almost all copies. This one with an early April 20th, 1948 inscription escaped Layton's razor. Publisher's plain card covers, grey outer wrapper illustrated in red & black. A very good or better copy of the author's uncommon second book showing light use. Inscribed by Layton on the ffe.: "For my brother Larry / With love & Esteem / Irving / Montreal, Que / April 20th 1948". Contains both poems & stories. This copy used to belong to a late Montreal poet and friend of Layton who has inscribed his name neatly on the first page. The ink from his inscription has transfered slightly to the inside flap of the dustjacket. Also on the first page is Irving Layton's signature. A nice copy of a scarce book. Signed by Author(s).
