Add to basketIn this biography, Sister Maria Del Rey of the Maryknoll Sisters tells the story of Sister Mary Mercy and her medical work in postwar Korea. In 1951, she and two other Maryknoll sisters founded a clinic that treated 100 people a day, but by 1954 was treating 2,600 a day. The book ends with the construction of a 160-bed hospital. The book also tells the stories of many Korean War refugees. Before entering Maryknoll, Sister Maria Del Rey (1908-2000) was a city reporter for the Pittsburgh Press who spent three years in a concentration camp in the Philippines during World War II. In 1964, she enrolled in the Columbia Graduate School for journalism.
