About the Author

Julia Alvarez is the author of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, In the Time of the Butterflies (a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist), and Yo! She has also published three collections of poetry and, most recently, Something to Declare, a collection of essays. She lives in Vermont and the Dominican Republic, where she and her husband run a coffee plantation.
