Chandler, the Australian-born sea captain and SFWA Grand Master, was known for his pragmatic space adventures; Reynolds, a prolific Galaxy contributor, specialized in speculative sociology and economics. Kelly Freas (1922–2005), winner of ten Hugo Awards, was one of the defining illustrators of the genre, creating covers for Mad Magazine, Analog, and countless Ace and Ballantine titles.
