This very special book has been Signed by the author (Nelson Algren) on the ffep and inscribed by him and Dated by him "March 1947". It obviously came from the library of author Larry McMurtry as it is Signed by Mr. McMurtry, in pencil, on the top of the same ffep, Dated "1964" and Mr. McMurtry also wrote "35" which must have been what he paid for the book. There are notes, again in pencil, about the book on the rear paste down including that it was a 2nd issue DJ as well as notes in pencil on the rref that seem to list the ownership history of the book. Book has bumping to the head & tail of the spine with the original top stain. It is very tight with the typical age toning seen with a book of this age. There is an previous owners "ex-libris" sticker affixed to the front paste down. States on the title-page "Doubleday & Co Inc. Garden City , N.Y. 1947" making it a True First Printing. The DJ is price-intact ($2.50) and has edge wear to the corners of the spine and one open tear at the head of the spine. A very nice age toned DJ considering it's age. The introduction pages are laid in and I believe were laid in later as there is "Hill & Lang, Pagebacked 1960" written in pencil below the word "introduction".
