The author's account of activity from his relinquishing of the command of the Eighth Army and returning to England to take over 21 Army Group in preparation for the invasion of North-West Europe, to the Battle of the Rhine and the surrender. Written by Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, a senior British Army officer who served in the First World War, the Irish War of Independence, and the Second World War.
