Octavo, 329pp. Three quarter brown morocco, marbled boards, marbled endpapers. Stated "Published October, 1935" on copyright page. Archival leather reinforcement to hinges, solid text block. Signed on the front free endpaper by former Vice President Charles G. Dawes: "To my dear friend and kinsman / John Dawes Ames / from Charles G. Dawes / Oct. 30th, 1935" Charles G. Dawes served as the 30th Vice President of the United States from 1925 to 1929 under President Calvin Coolidge. Born on August 27, 1865, in Marietta, Ohio, Dawes was a banker, military general, and diplomat before entering the political arena. He developed the Dawes Plan in 1924, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The plan was designed to solve the World War I reparations problem that was stressing the economy of Germany and the international economic system. Prior to his vice presidency, Dawes served in World War I and was the first Director of the Bureau of the Budget in 1921. He passed away on April 23, 1951, in Evanston, Illinois.
