PORTER, Burton P. "OLD CANAL DAYS". [Columbus, Ohio: Heer Printing Co.], 1942. Tall 8vo., blue cloth stamped in gilt; 471 pages. First Edition, with the errata list tipped to the front pastedown. Porter writes a fictional account about his hometown of Canal Fulton, a small city in Stark County, Ohio, and near the Ohio Canal. Porter was a lawyer and entrepreneur who helped in the expansion of Detroit's downtown area. Signed presentation from Porter on the front endpaper: "To my Friend, Harry C. Beitt, with best wishes, Burton P. Porter." Beitt was a commercial photographer in Cleveland. With a later inscription inked below the first: "To my friend, Mr. Damon- Gasphe[?] Herald, Cleveland, O. Geo. H. Bruehler." Bruehler was a Cleveland-based druggist and his business label is tipped-in below his inscription.
