Octavo (20.25cm); black paper-covered boards, with titles stamped in silver on spine; dustjacket; [ii],[4],5-238pp. Inscribed on in blue ink on the title page to McCarthy's friend, Dr. Philip Murray of Sligo, Ireland (1940-2019): "For Philip / All best wishes / Cormac McCarthy / Sligo 2004." Text edges foxed, one lower corner gently tapped (though still sharp), with subtle offsetting and some faint foxing to endpapers and a few preliminary and terminal leaves; Very Good+. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced £1.80p net), showing light surface wear, a faint diagonal crease to front panel, with some faint foxing and evidence of three pieces of cello-tape skillfully removed from verso, with some minimal bleed-through to rear panel; Very Good. Housed in a custom felt-lined clamshell case. McCarthy's second novel set in Appalachia dark, brooding, incestuous, and violent. Inscribed copies of the UK edition are uncommon, this being the only example to appear at auction, with the bulk of the recipient's collection, at Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers in 2016.
