Laid-in is a brief inscription from the author to Jerome Peltier, a noted author, and a typed letter dated Dec. 29, 1959, and signed by the author discussing a trip to Hollywood and a series being done on her husband for showing on Death Valley Days." Pictorial wrappers, 138 pp., illustrations from old photographs. The author was the wife of Bill Tilghman; buffalo hunter, army scout, and famous lawman. Although Tilghman served as deputy sheriff and City Marshall of Dodge City from 1874 to 1884, this well-written account relates many of his experiences as a lawman in Oklahoma Territory. Bill Tilghman, Heck Thomas and Chris Madsen, were known as "The Three Guardsmen." Together they fought such famous outlaws as The Daltons, The Doolin Gang, The Jennings Gang, and Henry Starr. Bat Masterson, with whom Tilghman served in Dodge City, called Tilghman "the greatest of us all." This book has been used extensively by later writers,."--Ramon Adams.
