About this Item
Very Good (little spotting exterior gutters & some browning pastedowns; else contents clean & tight); moderate edgewear (little soil) d/j. 8vo., off-white cloth in dust jacket; 277 pages First Edition (so stated). Signed presentation from Rose on the front endpaper: "For Rhoda Murray-wishing her all happiness within her own four walls. Cordially, Don Rose." A very scarce war-time book in the first edition. Don Rose came to the U.S. from England in 1908, when he was 18, entering through Ellis Island. By 1941 he was one of Philadelphia's best-known newspaper columnists. That year he published his gentle, funny memoir My Own Four Walls, the story of the ramshackle farmhouse he and Marjorie, his wife, bought in 1918 for themselves and their 12 children.
