Add to basketSIGNED and Dated by Ayn Rand, this item turns up no previous appearance in commerce: Signed First Edition/First Printing of the bound volume of AYN RAND's FIRST PERIODICAL, The Objectivist Newsletter [TON], containing the entire contents of the Newsletter (1962-65), much of which has never appeared elsewhere in print. Issued in a single state of an estimated 5000 copies (Perinn, C6) no SIGNED first printing has ever been offered -- until now. "For me," Rand wrote in 1976, "every article has to involve some new identification, big or small, not only new to my readers but new to me." In this bound volume of TON, Rand collectors and enthusiasts will discover an avalanche of new identifications, many elsewhere unpublished, from full-length articles (including her very first article for TON, "Choose Your Issues") to several of her book reviews, to her unfavorable "Book Report" on Mickey Spillane, an author for whom she had repeatedly expressed admiration. Too, this first printing of all 48 issues of TON offers the first appearance in book form of some of Rand's legendary speeches ("Is Atlas Shrugging," "What Is Capitalism?") and groundbreaking discoveries ( Man's Rights," "The Psycho-Epistemology of Art."). Within these pages, you'll discover the historic moment when and where Rand altered her definition of "reason" -- "the primary concern of my work and the essence of Objectivism" by eliminating a single word and its required comma. Have you heard today's conservatives and liberals accuse each other of peddling "extremist" views? Reread Rand's brazenly first-hand elucidation of "Extremism or the Art of Smearing." Are you concerned with campus turmoil and violent demonstrations on university grounds? Apprehend "The Cashing-In: The Student Rebellion," which might have been written this year for its unparalleled, prescient analysis. While individual issues of TON and Rand's later periodicals have appeared on the market, here is the only signed copy of the bound volume of Rand's first periodical ever offered. No writings or markings of any kind. A few small smudges on the back cover. Book is ever so slightly cocked, else a fine, unique copy. Issued without jacket. Book #v1401. $5000. We specialize in rare Ayn Rand, as well as other legends and landmarks.
