Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To William McDougall with kindest regards UptonÂSinclair." The recipient, Professor William MacDougall who was a renowned 20th century psychologist, wrote the introduction to another ofÂSinclair's work on telepathy: 'Mental Radio: Does it Work, and How,' which documents Sinclair's test of the psychic abilities of his second wife while she was in a state of profound depression. Octavo, original cloth. In good condition with rubbing to the extremities, sunning to the spine. Rare and desirable signed and inscribed. This sweeping panorama of Southern California provides a tremendously absorbing portrait of the early tycoons of the American oil industry through the eyes of Bunny Ross, son of a genial independent oil operator. "A splendid, honest, clean attempt at a real interpretation of our age" (Walter Prichard Eaton). The story served as the primary inspiration for the 2007 film 'There Will Be Blood,' written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano.
