At times stern, at other times patient, at times perceptive, at other times in sad denial, Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine, and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her: a lounge musician haunted by a past romance; a former student who has lost the will to live; Olive’s own adult child, who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities; and her husband, Henry, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse.
As the townspeople grapple with their problems, mild and dire, Olive is brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life—sometimes painfully, but always with ruthless honesty. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condition—its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires.
The inspiration for the Emmy Award–winning HBO miniseries starring Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, and Bill Murray

Store description
Dear Customers: Rowe Rare Books & Maps specializes in collectible and uncommon books, modern first editions, signed and inscribed copies, association and provenance material, literary fiction, history, New England and local history, and other books of lasting scholarly or collector appeal. We also maintain a substantial inventory of original antique and vintage maps, including maps of states, countries, cities, towns, counties, railroads, transportation routes, and other historically interesting places. Every item is approached with a researcher’s eye. For books, particular attention is given to edition and printing, dust-jacket state, signatures and inscriptions, ownership history, provenance, issue points, and other details that can materially affect significance and value. Our map inventory includes original period maps and atlas sheets rather than modern reproductions. Areas of particular interest include nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American maps, city and town maps, state and county maps, railroad and transportation maps, foreign-country maps, local-history material, and attractive maps suitable for framing. Many of our maps were produced by major American cartographic publishers, including George F. Cram & Company, and may show towns, cities, streets, rail lines, rivers, lakes, mountains, counties, parks, depots, public buildings, and other details useful to collectors, historians, genealogists, and decorators. We also offer a map search service. If you are looking for a particular country, state, county, city, town, village, railroad line, neighborhood, or other geographic location, please contact us. Our inventory is much larger than what may be listed online at any one time, and we are happy to search our holdings for maps related to a specific place or subject. Books and maps are individually examined and described with an emphasis on accuracy. We distinguish first editions from later printings whenever possible, note defects rather than concealing them, and provide additional photographs, bibliographical details, or map information on request. Signed, inscribed, association, and provenance-rich books receive especially careful research, as do unusual or locally significant maps. Our inventory ranges from affordable collectible material to scarcer first editions, signed books, historical maps, prints, and other items of special interest. We are especially interested in twentieth- and twenty-first-century literature, American history, New England history, railroad and transportation material, unusual ephemera, and books and maps with documented connections to people, places, or events. Our goal is straightforward: to offer interesting, authentic, accurately described books and maps at fair market prices, supported by careful research and responsive service. Additional photographs, research questions, and map-search inquiries are always welcome. Sincerely, Robert Rowe Rowe Rare Books & Maps Natick, MA, USA 978-496-0166 robertnrowe@gmail.com…
