Octavo, half cloth binding with stiff green boards, original green illustrated endpapers, paper title label to front cover. Book about optimism by American health food-faddist of the Victorian Era, best known for his suggestions for chewing your food at least 32 times, or 100 times per minute, thus earning the nickname, "The Great Masticator." Contents include: "Optimism a Real Remedy; Agreement of Definitions for Mutual Understanding; The Passing of Drugs; Physiologic Optimism Gained Through Progressive Meliorism; Melioristic Optimism is Opportunism; Specific Cases; Human Resourcefulness a Cause for Optimism; and Progressive Growth, Accumulation, and Happiness After Fifty."
