First Edition. Signed and inscribed by actors Linda Stirling and George J. Lewis who starred in the film. Inscribed by Ms. Stirling: “To Jim, All best wishes to the man who knows it all - every movie Republic ever made - It’s fun to remember with you. Linda Stirling”. And by Mr. Lewis: “To my friend Jim Schoenberger who has brought many happy memories of my Serial Days. George J. Lewis”. Original shooting script together hardbound. 182 mimeographed pages with color rewrite pages, 8 1/2 inches by 13 inches. Specially hardbound copy in black leather with gilt stamping to the front cover and spine. Very good copy with some minor occasional dampstaining to the edges of the interior, not affecting the legibility of the text, and with a few neat tape repairs. Laid in is a black & white promotional photograph of Linda Stirling in character as the provocative Barbara Meredith, brandishing a whip in one hand and a pistol in the other, signed and inscribed by her: “To Nick, Sincerely, Linda Stirling”. Enclosed in a custom black cloth clamshell box. One of the classic motion picture film serials issued in twelve chapters for the film Zorro’s Black Whip, directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet and Wallace Grissell; written by Basil Dickey, Jesse Duffy, and Grant Nelson, and starring Linda Stirling, George J. Lewis, and Lucien Littlefield. The film was made after the 1940 20th Century-Fox remake of The Mark of Zorro in order to capitalize on its success. Interestingly, Republic was not able to use the character of Zorro himself, however, and despite the title, the heroine is called The Black Whip throughout. The story is set in pre-statehood Idaho and involves a fight to prevent and ensure statehood by the villains and heroes respectively. To widen the film’s appeal, a sizzling romance is folded into the plot. Serial scripts of this vintage are rare.…
