Original Kinetic Light Photograph In Color, By Jae Carmichael, 21 7/8" X 18" Image, Signed At Lower Right By Jae Carmichael. Printed On Flexible Glossy Photographic Paper, With 1" Margins. Undated But Circa 1980. Jae Carmichael (1925-2005) Was A Pasadena Area Artist And Art Educator Known For Her Watercolors, Sculpture, Murals, Oils And Films. She Studied At Mills College (Oakland) 1942-1944, Then At Claremont Graduate School, Mfa 1955; And Then At The University Of Southern California, Where She Received A Bfa In 1951, And A Phd In Art History And Cinematography In 1972. Carmichael Studied Art With Francis De Erdely, Millard Sheets, Phil Dike, Dong Kingman And William Gaw. In 1953, She Became A Member (And Later Member Of The Board 1959-1960 & 1970-1972); Director Of The California Water Color Society And Exhibited In The Annual Shows Thereafter. She Was A Director Of The Pasadena School Of Fine Arts, Member Of The Board Of The Pasadena Society Of Artists 1958-1960, 1962, And 1963, And President 1970-1972, A Member Of The Board Of The Los Angeles Art Association 1965-1969, And A Member Of The American Watercolor Society. In 1962-1966 She Owned And Operated The Wooden Horse Gallery In Laguna Beach, With Shows For Many Well-Known California Artists, Including An Early One-Woman Show For Sister Mary Corita (Kent). Carmichael Taught As An Instructor Of Drawing And Painting At The Palos Verdes Arts Assn, And Art History And Cinematography At The Otis Art Institute And The University Of Southern California, Where She Was An Adjunct Professor. She Was Associated With The Long Beach Museum Of Art, Mills College, Scripps College, The Charles And Emma Frye Museum, Computer Measurements Corporation, And Many Other Institutions And Private Collections. (Old) Pasadena Art Museum And Was The Founding Director Of Its Successor, The Pacific-Asia Museum (Pacificulture Foundation). Carmichael Was A Descendant Of The Pioneering Giddings Family, Which Founded Mountain View Cemetery And Mausoleum In Altadena In 1882, And She Created An Art Presence There Including A Long-Standing Series Of Exhibitions Of Contemporary Art. Carmichael Staged More Than 200 Solo Exhibitions In Galleries In Los Angeles, Japan And Europe. Her Work Has Been Featured In Many Impressive Solo And Group Exhibitions Worldwide, Including Over 100 International, National & Regional Shows And 21 Solo Shows, 1945-1973, And Can Be Found In Permanent Collections Throughout The Country. Her 1976 Film Heritage Of Hope, Made For The Los Angeles Unified School District, Was Nominated For An Emmy. Her Work Is Included In Permanent Collections Of The Oakland Museum Of California, The Long Beach Museum Of Art And The San Francisco Museum Of Modern Art, Among Others.
