About the Author

Ann Darby was, in her own words, "the one in her family who tried never to break the rules." The oldest of four children, she was raised in the 1950s in Altadena, California. There she found one of her first loves, dance. It was through dance that she began to write seriously, adding stories to her movement and in time dropping the movement but keeping the stories.

Having earned both her B.A. in literature and her M.F.A. in fiction from Columbia University, Ann has had residencies at the MacDowell Colony, the Ucross Foundation, and the Millay Colony. Her short fiction has appeared in The Northwest Review, The Malahat Review, and The Best of Story Quarterly, among other journals, and her work has been nominated for the Pushcart and Henfield prizes and has received the Bennett Cerf Prize. She now lives in New York City.
