This book is an historical account of the educational institution in Albertville, Alabama, once known as the Seventh District Agricultural School--its beginning, development, significance, and influence on the town of Albertville and all of northern Alabama. Included in this book also are chapters depicting the history of the Sand Mountain area as a whole. Such topics as mountain speech, mountain music, and early settlers, to name a few, contain valuable information and insight for any causal and all serious students of history. One cannot help but realize as he reads this book that he has been introduced to a unique part of the world--known as Sand Mountain--as a by-product of the study of the Seventh District Agricultural School. Mr. Carnes has made a worthy, factual, and thought-provoking contribution to history. It is not often that one gets a chance to read about the history of his school, hometown, and society in such a delightful, yet historical, perspective as is given in this book. I found myself understanding a great deal about the "rock from which I was hewn" (as Carnes puts it) as I researched and read "Out of the Sand", for I am a product of Sand Mountain.by Lorretta Segars. In the Conclusion there are several listings: Table of Headmasters of the School, Roll of Graduates (1896-1932)., Bibliography, and quite a few pictures. The book jacket shows some wear. The book is clean with no markings or highlighting. The binding is tight. The pages are clean.
